Help Me Make History for Monroe: My Vision for Our City

Greetings, Monroe! I'm Betty Ward Cooper, and I am calling on your vote this Saturday, March 23rd as we strive to make history and shape a brighter future for our beloved city. As a lifelong resident of Monroe, I have witnessed the potential and the challenges we face firsthand. Now, I stand before you as a candidate for mayor, ready to lead with passion, dedication, and a clear vision for our community's growth and prosperity.

Here is a quick look at some of the issues our city faces, and what I will do about them as your mayor.

Crime Reduction: One of my top priorities is reducing violent crime. I believe in authentic community policing, where police officers are actively involved in the neighborhoods they serve. By working closely with citizens, we can tackle crime and improve the quality of life for all residents.

Youth Development Programs: Our youth are our future, and I am committed to investing in their success. I plan to work closely with our school system to create year-round programs for at-risk youth. By providing educational, workforce development, and recreational opportunities, we can empower our young residents to reach their full potential.

Economic Development: I envision a Monroe where economic opportunities are abundant for everyone. By focusing on revitalizing areas like the Southside, we can spark growth and prosperity for all of Monroe.

Small Business Development: Small businesses are the backbone of our community. I am passionate about supporting them and encouraging entrepreneurship that drives local economic growth.

Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE): Diversity and inclusion are crucial for economic development. I am committed to increasing the participation of DBEs in our city's initiatives, ensuring that everyone has an equal chance at success.

Affordable Homeownership Program: Owning a home should be within reach for everyone. I am dedicated to making homeownership more accessible through affordable programs, especially for first-time buyers.

Public Works: Efficient city services are essential for a high standard of living. I plan to improve public works and enhance the delivery of city services, particularly in communities that have been neglected for too long.

Community Engagement: Communication and accountability are key. That's why I plan to establish semi-annual community meetings in each council district, providing a direct platform for residents to express their concerns and ideas.

I invite you to join me in making history for Monroe. This Saturday, voting takes place from 7 am - 8 pm and we urge you to join a movement to bring true change to Monroe. Your support, your vote, can make a real difference. Find your voting location here, and make plans.

I'd like to thank everyone who has donated, volunteered, or simply spread the word. Let's make one more push and together we can build a safer, more prosperous Monroe for all.
